About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and engaging Developmental Support Worker or Caregiver to support a young male client with autism. The client experiences social anxiety and is looking for someone who can help him build confidence and enjoy social and recreational activities in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Engage the client in enjoyable community outings and activities such as: Going to the movies, the mall, or the arcade
- Grabbing a tea or coffee and chatting
- Supporting participation in leisure and social activities
- Provide gentle encouragement and emotional support to help reduce social anxiety.
- Promote independence, social skills, and a positive self-image through meaningful interactions.
- Maintain professionalism, respect, and confidentiality at all times.
Qualifications:
- Experience or education in Developmental Services, Personal Support Worker, Social Work, Psychology, nursing or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with autism or social anxiety.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Reliable, patient, and compassionate.
- Ability to meet client at Eaton Centre Downtown, 2-3 times a week, 1pm-5pm (preferably Tuesdays & Thursdays)
- Current First Aid/CPR and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Fully vaccinated against Covid
